Louie Curry was named as the 2018 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Volunteer of the Year. This is quite an honor as Mr. Louie Curry's service was recognized from the approximately 2000 member organization with 200 County/City Recreation Agencies in the State of Georgia. The award was presented to a volunteer serving in Recreation from population of 20,001 to 50,000.
Mr. Curry was the first and only DLCR Authority Chairman since its inception and has served for some 19 1/2 years.
Mr. Curry was most deserving of being recognized as GRPA State Volunteer because he stands tall in his beliefs, support of and commitment to Dublin-Laurens County Recreation Authority. He is a lifelong resident of Laurens County and remains totally involved in making Dublin-Laurens County a better place to live, work and play. As a busy professional owning his own business, he has accepted the challenge to give back to a cause he truly cares about, thus taking a leadership role in strengthening our community through recreation. He is described as a "doer" and really gets "things" done. He has always believed in DLCRA and the residents and visitors benefit from his belief daily. Mr. Curry had the vision of the economic impact for our County through recreation special events and tournaments and this vision continues to grow as we witness new hotels and restaurants being built to accommodate those who visit Southern Pines Athletic Complex.
Presenting this special award was Eddie Cannon, President of GRPA and Danny T. Jones, Executive Director of Dublin-Laurens Recreation Authority.
The award was presented at the Dublin After Hours. Mr. Curry was pleasantly surprised as his fellow business persons, family and Recreation Professionals looked on in their support and appreciation.
